A device for marking points on a recording surface according to successive control instructions is esp. for plotting. It has two separately driven carrier sections enabling the adjustment of markings according to point coordinates. Easy access to the recording surface (2) is provided. This facilitates the changeover of maps. The markings are arranged on a steel tape mounted on the first carrier and constituting the second carrier. The tape (11) is coiled on the carrier (10) and is slightly convex so as to achieve the required stiffness transverse to its coiling device. The second of the two carrier drive arrangements (15) coils and uncoils the marking tape (11) which is driven by a projection engaging its perforation or by friction.
