The installation is used to position piece goods during a loading operation for pallets during which the pallets are transported to the loading point in one or more tracks. The layer to be transferred is separated from the succeeding piece goods. The installation consists of a loading platform located above a loading point which has a bearing permitting it to be withdrawn for the laying up of a layer of piece goods. The loading platform after receiving a layer of piece goods can be moved by a marginal extent in the direction of sliding on of the piece goods.
