The treatment device is intended for cigarettes before smoking. It has a housing (1,2) with a bore (4) accommodating the filter end of the cigarette (5). On each side of the bore is a piercing tool (9) movable so as to penetrate the wrapping of the filter portion (6). The tools can each be mounted on spring-loaded buttons (10), pressed from outside in the direction of the bore, and can be in the form of two needles, one after the other in the longitudinal direction of the cigarette. The housing can comprise two flat metal, or plastics shells joined together.
