The light-weight accordion has free reeds (69-72), a keyboard (26-28) and a folding bellows (8), which is arranged between the keyboard housing (3) and a bottom housing (5). A filler plate (25) in the housing (2) on one side carries voice boxes (13,14,17,18) with plates (67,68,44,45) holding the reeds, whilst the other side carries the corresponding valves (30,33,30a,33a) operated by the keys. The voice boxes extend, at least partly, into the space inside the bellows to a level adjacent to the connection of bellows to bottom housing (5). The filler plate (56) of this housing (5) carries the low-noise, non-return valves (61-64). This arrangement permits extension down to 32 Hz range in spite of its low weight.
