Spoiler flap for rear of car - has pneumatic bellows to control hinged flap over rear edge of boot

The spoiler flap (14) is mounted on the rear edge of the boot and has a raising rear edge to trim the vehicle at different speeds. It has a bellows servo (13) normally folded in a recess under the flap and operating with vehicle speed to stabilise the vehicle at high speeds. The bellows operate against a return spring (25) which holds the flap flush with the boot lid when the car is at low speed. The flap provides a compact and simple trim control which does not impair access to the boot. The flap hinge can be simplified by using an elastic flap hinge with both ends bonded to the flap or vehicle. The flap can be replaced by a series of flaps along the rear edge of the boot for improved trim control.
