A monolithic capacitor, specially a ceramic capacitor on a titanate basis, consists of a wafer of dielectrically active material which is metallised on both sides. Symmetrical recesses are arranged on both sides, leaving a thin wall, resembling a membrane, between them, to represent the major part of the capacitance. If the wafer thickness is 0.6-2 mm, the membranes are 0.1-0.5 mm thick, but never more than 60% of the overall thickness. The wafer is made of a ceramic on a titanate basis with a high dielectric constant of 10000 or more. It carries a metallised film on both sides. Recesses in the shape of conical blind holes are arranged on both sides, leaving thin walls of 0.1-0.5 mm thickness between them. The conicity facilitates the removal from the mould. The webs have a tapered section to suit. This increases the capacitance of ceramic capacitors without having to reduce the wafer thickness so that the capacitor can still be inserted into the standard slot without tipping to one side.
|
