The setting circuit has a static converter with dc-side smoothing inductor. The currents or voltages of the separate phases with current or voltage durations of less than 180 elec. degrees are superimposed to give such of durations of 180 degrees at the load. The part currents or voltages being superimposed are produced using a mains transformer (7) with a delta configuration on its primary side and a star configuration on its secondary side, from which the polyphase setter (11) with inductor (12) is supplied. The primary windings (13-15) of the load transformer (16) lie in the supply lines to the primary windings (4-6) of the mains transformer (7). The load transformer's secondary windings (17-19) supply the load.
