The power station using solar heating uses mirrors (6) at ground level to reflect solar radiation onto an absorber (10) mounted on a tower, to operate a generator. The heat passes to a vaporising zone with a partition through which pass finned heating tubes for a heat exchanger. At the other end of the tubes is another partition, supporting them. The interior of the tubes forms a capillary structure for a heating medium. The tubes are of stainless steel, and circulate a liquid metal. Inside the tubes at the other end of the heat exchanger is an insulated gas cushion. This is formed by nitrogen or a noble gas.
