Melt-spinnable polyester fibers which have tensile strength>=18g/denier and which retain>=65% of their strength at 150oC consist of units of I and II optionally contg. 10% of different arom. of cycloaliph. units. Thus, a mixt. of phenyl hydroquinone diacetate(0.2mol) and terephthalic acid (0.19 mol) were polymd. at 300-40oC in vacuo to give a polyester which was spun and stretched to give a fiber with breaking strength/denier and stretch at break 3.5% which retained 71% of its breaking strength at 200oC.
