Press cauls are moved on to a continuously driven conveyor belt passing round a roller and then to the chips distributor point, the cauls being pressed on to a roller where the belt has an entry gap for them. Between a separate carrier belt and this gap a support table below is at least partly in the plane of the gap; extensible support arms can project in this plane synchronised with the time when the trailing edge of a caul on the conveyor belt leaves the carrier belt. A fixed switch positioned at the end of the arms is operated by the front edge of a caul to stop the carrier belt; another and adjustable positioned switch is actuated by the trailing edge of a caul entering the roller gap, this switch controls the carrier belt drive and the return movement of the arms. Successive cauls are accurately and continuously overlapped regardless of their shape/size.
