Wear monitor for chain conveyor path - has two coupled carriages moving along respective tracks with one used as wear reference

The monitor (2) comprises a testing carriage which moves along the conveyor path (1) in contact with the track (3) exhibiting wear and a reference carriage contacting the track (4) which does not exhibit wear. At least one spring acts between the two carriages, to maintain each in contact with the respective track (3, 4) while the distance between them is monitored for comparison with a reference value. The monitoring device is coupled to a warning device fed along the conveyor path with the monitor (2). Each carriage has at least three and pref. four wheels (11) and at least one of the carriages has at least two guide rollers (13, 14) one behind the other transverse to the wheels moving along an elongate guide slot (5) in the conveyor path (1).
