Gas-producing electrolytic portable appts. comprises a gas space divided by a partition into cathode chamber and anode chamber and incorporated in a vessel contg. the electrolyte and fitted with a cover plate. Labyrinth ducts (6) in the upper part of the vessel (1) are used for the gas discharge; contacts (7) for detecting the presence of the electrolyte (2) are incorporated either in the labyrinth ducts or at the gas side of the cover. For use e.g. in gas chromatography, for laboratory chemical reaction equipment, for measuring monitors, etc., where previously gas bottles have been used. If the vessel should be shaken or turned over, the electrolyte can penetrate only to a limited extent into the gas removal duct, and therefore the appts. is not destroyed or damaged.
