A safety ski binding with electronic or microprocessor based circuitry to assess the vertical and rotary forces on the foot at the ball and heel so that the ski binding can be released if they become dangerous. The circuitry does not require prior adjustment to set a value for release forces according to the weight of the skier. The circuitry independently determines its own quasi-statistical criteria for release by responding to the weight of the skier when the skis are being fitted. Allowance is made for skiing on one or both feet and release force limits are set accordingly. The front and rear weight measurements made are summed and entered into the processor or circuit programme to adjust the release point. The circuitry interprets the forces and time periods of duration according to its programme and the release points determined and accordingly commands the binding release. Interpretation of the rate of increase of the forces is also used for release control.
