The structure, particularly a silo, is of prefabricated components mounted alongside and in layers one above the other. In plan view, each component comprises a body, from which two or more arms, of the same height as the body, extend in different directions. When assembled together, the components form cellular chambers. The portions of two components (3,6) joined together to form a chamber wall are of unequal length, so that the joint between them is situated at a point of zero torque in the wall resulting from the horizontal load on it.
