Tool changer with magazine plate - which is cam operated to index and slide, and has sensor overriding slide motion on empty tool position

The tool change mechanism is intended for a machine tool and has a tool magazine, comprising a plate (31) rotatable about an axis parallel to the tool spindle. The plate has tool retaining openings (33,34) in its periphery. A disc (32) indexing the plate is carried in a slide (25) which is movable towards and away from the spindle by a rotating cam (12,13,24) via a bolt (26) with a roller (28), engaging a contoured groove (13) of the cam. The cam also operates the indexing motion via cam projection (24), pivoted lever (38), and positioning rollers (37) on the disc. A sensor at the tool transfer position causes the bolt to be withdrawn from the cam groove against a spring (27), when an empty opening (33,34) is presented. The cam rotates further, indexes the disc again and the bolt returns to complete the tool change.
