The spreader beam with chains is for lifting and handling loads, and it has two sidewalls at each end joined by a connector. Chains attached at the ends extend between a lifting hook and the load, one or more links of each chain bearing against a supporting flange. The flanges (6) rock on the beam (1) about axes coinciding with the lengthwise axes of pins (5) forming the connectors. The pins can support the flanges and can have supporting bushes fitting over them and in the sidewalls. The rocking axes of the flanges can intersect the lengthwise axis of the beam.
