The preparatory procedure for the combustible mixture in an oil-fired plant involves supply of all the combustion air via a reciprocating compressor (1), the fuel being fed into the compressor's suction pipe (3). Connected to the compressor discharge is a burner tube (2) which may have a flame trap (8) near its outlet end. The mixture is compressed to such an extent that the oil is at least partially vaporised. A conventional oil flow regulator (6) is fitted in the line (4) to the compressor suction pipe. The compressor is motor (9) driven.
