The aim of the invention is to improve the yield of the fermentation product, especially methane gas by slowly and carefully moving the bacterial colonies over a very small distance during the fermentation. For this purpose, a plant is proposed with at least one fermentation vessel 10, which is in liquid communication with a second container 12. The latter permits the required small movement through a specially designed connecting part 14, utilizing the excess pressure or the partial vacuum in the container 12. Valves 28 and 40 are used at the same time, where valve 28 connects the gas space in the vessels 10 and 12, while valve 40 opens the system to the atmosphere or closes it from it. <IMAGE>
