The device seals e.g. a cover (2) to a base (1), against liquid and gas while electrically connecting the two to ensure efficient operation of the two as e.g. an electromagnetic screen, and is locatable in a rectangular or similar cross-section groove (31) in the base. The joint has a compressible conductive core (41) formed typically from metal tissue or the like and provided on each side with a respective elastic non-deformable wall element (422). Each element has a greater height than the groove depth with its projecting edge formed as a lip (421) curved inwardly so that when the base and cover are forced together the lips bend inwardly to pinch the core, preventing it spreading out between the lips and the cover. The compressed core also forces the elements against the groove side walls.
