The feathers are transported from a storage vessel (1) by a blower (2) into a washing chamber (3) and are there washed with a cleaning fluid having chlorinated hydrocarbons. This fluid is then reprocessed in a regeneration circulation (5) having a distillation chamber (6), while the feathers are pneumatically transported into a drying chamber (9) and following this into a dedusting apparatus (11) having a filter (12), until they can finally be charged into containers (14). In the washing chamber, the feathers, as required, can be bleached, dyed, greased or coated with plastic. The use of chlorinated hydrocarbons is intended to achieve better cleaning than hitherto. The recovery of the cleaning fluid permits inexpensive operation and the appropriate utilisation of separated fats. <IMAGE> |
