The gear transmission is particularly intended for a motor car and comprises two coaxial input shafts (8,12), alternately connectable with the engine flywheel (1) by separate couplings (2,3). The output shaft (16) carries fixed gear wheels (9a,10a,13a,14a) meshing with gears (9,10; 13,14) which are couplable (11,15) to the shafts (8,12) via a synchronising mechanism. The couplings (2,3) and (11,15) are operated via slide bushes (17,18) and (11,15) which are axially movable by actuating elements whose relative positions are controlled by correspondingly contoured cam slots in a stepwise slidable or rotatable gate. The movement of the gate may be servo-controlled as a function of engine parameters.
