The propellant charge in powder form is contained in a casing with a fuse at the base. The powder is compressed to an increasing degree from the base towards the casing mouth. This can be done without the use of a binding agent or the formation of an auxiliary chamber, it being compressed directly into the casing. The fuse can be protected during the operation by a boss above it, and which is removed on completion. A high capacity per unit of vol. is achieved.
