PURPOSE:To reduce contact deformation patt and bending of a roll, by performing stiffening of the working roll with bearings directly supporting the working roll body having a large contact surface. CONSTITUTION:An upper working roll 2 is supported by a bearing metal in sliding contact with the roll body surface, a metal supporting body 5, and a stiffened axle box 4. The box 4 is divided into two parts 4-1 and 4-2 in the direction of the roll axis to couple their both ends firmly to each other and to fit the part corresponding to the body part of the roll only to the roll body merely. An hydraulic cylinder 16 and a ram 17 are mounted to the box 4 to control a shape of strip by actuating hydraulic pressure to separate the boxes 4-1 and 4-2 and bending the boxes to the oposite directions from each other in accordance with the hydraulic pressure. On the other hand, the thickness of a stiffened axle box 4' of an under working roll 2' is made larger at its central part corresponding to the body of the work roll 2' to reduce its deformation due to rolling load, thereby restricting the shape change of the strip caused by the deformation of the box 4'. |
