A system for distributing particulate material, for example a kiln firing system, comprises a pressure vessel (2) having an inlet (6) for the particulate material, e.g. coal, and an air manifold (@) to which is connected a plurality of inlet tubes (14). Outlet tubes (18) extend co-axially through tubes (14) to define @ passages (20), and a cylinder (22) is located in each passage (20) and can be moved relative to the tubes. Material in use is admitted to the vessel (2) and is entrained by air passing through the annular passages (20) to be conveyed out of the vessel via the outlet tubes (18).
