PURPOSE:To prepare L-serine from glycine, by cultivating a bacterium belonging to the genus Sarcina, capable of deactivating L-serinedehydratase activity and producing L-serine from glycine, bringing the culture solution or its mold into contact with a glycine-containing solution. CONSTITUTION:A bacterium such as Sarcina albida ME-34 (FERM-P 6084) belonging to the genus Sarcina, capable of reducing or deactivating S-serinedehydratase activity and producing L-serine from glycine is cultivated in a common medium. In the cultivation, 0.1-1wt% glycine is added to the medium to promote preferably the L-serine production ability. The culture solution or the mold separated from it is brought into contact with a glycine-containing solution in a pH of 6-9 at 20-50 deg.C. Glycine in the solution is converted into L-serine, which is accumulated and separated. |
