What is described is a novel roving, in which, in contrast to conventional rovings, for example flyer rovings, the consolidation of the unconsolidated fibre sliver is obtained not by twisting, but by looping the non-twisted drawable fibre sliver with a fine-denier filament yarn. This filament yarn is provided with predetermined breaking points before the production of the roving, so that, during subsequent drawing of the roving in the fine-spinning machine, the filament yarn is torn in a controlled manner at exactly predetermined points. The pieces of filament yarn remain in the subsequently ready-spun fine yarn so as to be virtually invisible from outside. What is also described is a process for producing the roving, in which the predetermined breaking points are made during a winding of the filament yarn, before the fibre sliver is wound with the filament yarn.
