Head box for a paper machine

A head box for a paper machine has a group of channels (20) which are arranged distributed over the width of the machine and through which fibrous material flows and which open out into a discharge nozzle (12). The channels (20) widen in the form of a constant diffuser (27) before opening out into the discharge nozzle (12). The channels (20) have a relatively large length and small clear width. A channel portion (a) with a reduced clear width is provided in each of the channels (20) before opening out into the discharge nozzle (12) so that the head box can also be used for relatively low operating speeds or for operation with relatively high material density. The entry (26) into this channel portion (a) is constructed as a step-type reduction of the cross-section.
