Ethylene-C3-8 α-olefin copolymers having d. 0.91-0.94 and melt flow ratio 26-40 are produced in a low-pressure, gas-phase process at >= 500,000 lb polymer/lb Ti with a catalyst prepd. by copulverizing a Mg dihalide with a Ti complex. Thus, TiCl4THF, TiCl42THF, and TiCl4Et anisate complexes(4-72 g) and 500 g MgCl2 were pulverized for 10-72 hr under N at 25≦̸C giving a catalyst contg. 0.02-0.34 mmol Ti/g and having Me/Ti ratio 27-523:1. The catalyst was activated with Et3Al in hexene, resulting in an Al/Ti mol ratio of˜160. Ethylene was copolymd. with 1-butene for > 1 hr after equil. at 300 psig. 85≦̸C.
