The multicolour laser contains a laser resonator (2) having four mirrors (7, 8, 9, 10). A laser beam is generated which has two colours, a control being provided such that the two colours are present simultaneously or sequentially. An amplifier (3) coupled to the resonator amplifies the light beam. The number of the colours can be increased to four if the second harmonic is generated at the output of the amplifier for each of the initially present colours, and then the initially present colours and the second harmonics are combined. It is possible, however, to increase the number of colours to six if second harmonics and parametric oscillations of the initially present colours are generated at the output of the amplifier, and these are then combined. <IMAGE>
