The invention relates to a device for gluing on the fly-leaf in bookbinding machines, in particular in folding and adhesive binding machines, with which device, after the backs of the inner books have been glued, the fly-leaf sheets which are set back relative to the latter are glued to the inner book. The object to be achieved envisages providing a device for gluing on the fly-leaf, which device can be incorporated in the structure of a folding and adhesive binding machine and allows fixed bonding of the fly-leaves with minimum application of glue. According to the invention, by means of glue applying elements which can be constructed, for example, as disc-shaped gluing wheels, two additional lines of glue are applied to the glued side of the fold strip, with which the space (y) between the back of the inner book and the lower edge of the set-back fly-leaf is filled. In order to ensure in-register application of the lines of glue on the fold strip, the gluing wheels are arranged so as to be adjustable in accordance with the thickness of the inner book and the thickness of the application of glue to the end sides of the gluing wheels can be regulated by doctor blades. Arranged on the unglued side of the fold strip are a swivellable deflection roller and marking elements for checking the correctly positioned application of the lines of glue.
