A brake shoe (1) for rail vehicles is described, having a brake shoe spring (2) for releasably attaching at least one brake shoe pad (3) from which a holding eyelet (5) projects which can be inserted into a recess of the brake shoe (1). The brake shoe spring (2) can be plugged from below through the holding eyelet (5) and secured in the closed position by means of a bolt (9) around which a grip component (7) at the lower end of the brake shoe spring (2) engages. The grip component (7) of the brake shoe spring (2) has a projection (6) which is directed towards the brake shoe pad (3) and, when a brake shoe spring (fitting position) is partially withdrawn, rests against a web (17) which penetrates the brake shoe (1). <IMAGE>
