A copying apparatus, comprising: a commanding unit configured to input an operation command: a scanning unit configured to execute, in response to receipt of the operation command from the commanding unit, a scanning operation to repeat a first operation to scan an image on an original sheet along a first direction with changing a position of the first operation along a second direction which is perpendicular to the first direction, and a generating operation to generate pixel data of pixels of the image on the original sheet; a compression unit configured to generate compressed image data by compressing the pixel data within each of multiple sections which are defined by dividing the image of the original sheet in the first direction such that boundaries between adjoining sections extend in the second direction; a decompression unit configured to decompress the compressed image data generated by the compression unit to generate rotation-subjected data which includes at least part of decompressed data of the compressed image data as decompressed image data; a rotation processing unit configured to apply 90-degree rotation processing to the decompressed image data generated by the decompression unit; and a recording unit configured to record the image of the original sheet on a recording sheet by repeatedly executing a recording operation to form the image of the original sheet in a unit of band which has a particular number of pixels in the first direction and extends along the second direction with use of the decompressed image data to which the rotation processing has been applied by the rotation processing unit.
