In order to close a bag (4) a closing ring (2) is used which is engaged by means of a hand tool (1) around the end portion of the bag which is squeezed in the shape of a buffer (3). The hand tool is comprised essentially of a body (1) provided with an opening (6) having a seat (7) for the closure ring (2). The seat (7) has a shouldering (8) directed inward and forming a bearing for a face of the closure ring (2). The latter is provided with a peripheral internal acute ridge which is disposed axially on the same side as the shouldering (8). The smallest internal diameter of the closure ring (2) at the place of the ridge (11) is smaller than the smallest diameter of the opening (6) at the place of the shouldering (8). In order to close the bag (4) the body of the tool (1) provided with the closure ring (2) is engaged on the buffer-shaped portion (3) in the direction of the arrow (14). Upon a reverse movement of the body of the tool the closure ring (2) remains hooked to the closed portion (3), whereas the body of the tool (1) is withdrawn in the direction of the arrow (16) from the closure ring and from the buffer-shaped end (3) of the bag.
