<p>A composite seal strip profile as used on vehicle bodywork and comprising a 'U' section profile of solid rubber alongside one leg of which is an integral hollow profile of expanded rubber is characterised by having the axis of the hollow profile at a level closer to the mouth of the solid profile than to the radiused surfaces of the base of that profile and also by incorporation of a serpentine wire to reinforce the solid section from crest to crest where that wire is complemented at intervals by groups of (non-metallic) textile threads running longitudinally through the solid section. One such group of threads is level with the axis and interface of the adjacent hollow cellular profile. Suitable for composite seals required to follow relatively tight radii of curvature on the vehicle bodywork, e.g. 5 cm or less, without flattening of the tubular part of the seal profile at the root or apex of such corners. Both profile and reinforcement formats are suitable for incorporation by continuous extrusion.</p> |
