PURPOSE:To prepare an oil-modified phenolic resin giving a flexible electrical laminate, by reacting phenol with alpha-eleostearic acid methyl ester, and reacting the product with formaldehyde compound. CONSTITUTION:(A) A phenolic compound or its mixture with modifiable molasses, xylene, etc. is made to react with (B) alpha-elecostearic acid methyl ester in the presence of an acidic catalyst such as p-toluenesulfonic acid at 50-120 deg.C. The amount of the component (A) is preferably 2-5mol/1mol of the component (B). The reaction product is made to react with (C) a formaldehyde compound to obtain the objective oil-modified phenolic resin. An electrical laminate can be manufactured by impregnating the resin into a laminating substrate, drying the resin to obtain a prepreg sheet, stacking the necessary number of the prepreg sheets, if necessary attaching an adhesive-backed copper foil to the surface, and hot-pressing the whole assembly. |
