PURPOSE:To stub correctly a separated character pattern, by detecting and processing sets of isolated adjacent patterns satisfying a prescribed condition with respect to the character pattenr width and pattern interval as the candidate of the separated character pattern. CONSTITUTION:Contrast information in the unit of picture element read at a reading section 1 is converted 2 into a binary white-black digital picture and inputted to a row stubbing section 3, from which the picture data of one character is stubbed and stored in a row picture storage section 7. The projection of the data of the storage section 7 is extracted at a projection extracting section 4, and the data such as the width of projection at each section of the projection, the center position, and adjacent center intervals are stored in a projection storage section 8. The printing pitch satisfying the prescribed condition from the storage section 8 is discriminated and classified at the discriminating section 9 and given to a character stubbing and discriminating section 6 and a separating character pattern candidate detecting section 10 according to the separation. An isolation pattern stubbing section 5 refers to the content of the storage section 8, the isolated pattern is detected from the storage section 7 and gives the result to the discriminating section 6 and a base line extracting section 11. The discriminating section 6 stubs one of the candidates of the detecting section 10 from the position of the extracting section 11 to output the result. |
