In a process for producing organic fibres coated with one or more mineral substances, which are suitable for use as addition materials and/or fillers for further processable compositions, the procedure for obtaining a structured surface in combination with intimate and durable bond between the mineral substance coating and the fibre surface is as follows: the organic fibres, in particular cellulose fibres, are impregnated with the reactive natural and/or synthetic mineral substance and water with intimate mixing. This mixture is then subjected to a compaction process, and the mixture compacted to a plastic composition is dried after partial or complete hardening of the mineral substance or the mineral substances has taken place. The composition thus dried is finally comminuted, in particular shavingly and shreddingly by means of grinding, to give fine particles.
