In a thickener for dewatering suspensions, in particular fibre suspensions composed of cellulose, wood pulp or the like, which is equipped with a trough (1) holding the suspension, in which trough a sieving element, partially immersed in the suspension, and sealed from the trough (1), is rotatably mounted, it is proposed that, in order to achieve above all a low susceptibility to interference with a large available sieving area and a design which is simple to construct, at least one, preferably a plurality of circular sieving discs (2) are provided as sieving element, arranged at a distance from each other, each of which is sealed from the trough (1) in the area of the periphery (20) and each of which divides a filtrate chamber (3), in which the filtrate outlet (48) formed from the base area of the trough opens, from a suspension chamber (4), in which the suspension feed (41) opens in the area of one trough boundary and the suspension discharge (42) opens in the area of the other trough boundary facing the suspension feed (41). At a comparatively low speed of the rotating sieving discs, the throughput and content of residual material in the filtrate remain unaffected by variations in the feed suspension. (Figure 1). <IMAGE>
