In the case of the proposed hydraulic brake system two jointly or separately actuable master cylinders are provided for the pressure supply of wheel brakes on an axle which can be braked by a steering brake. In the case of joint actuation of the master cylinders equal pressures are generated in the wheel brakes in order to achieve a uniform braking action. In order to obtain complete pressure equalisation in the wheel brakes on the axle which can be braked by a steering brake in the event of simultaneous actuation of the master cylinders, it is proposed to make a hydraulic connection between the wheel brakes when both master cylinders are actuated. <IMAGE>
