Kegs which have been fed into a washing station on a conveyor are initially gripped at their lower edge by conical guide faces and centering rollers which can be swivelled inwards, lifted off from the conveyor without additional expenditure and lifted off between the centering rollers and the guide faces during the washing process with simultaneous rotation of the kegs about their own longitudinal axis, held in position and put back down onto the conveyor again when the guide faces and centering rollers swivel back and conveyed onwards by said conveyor. <IMAGE>
