In the method for washing passenger vehicles by means of a washing gantry which moves backwards and forwards in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle and which has two laterally moving washing brushes (vertical brushes) which rotate about essentially vertical axes of rotation and a vertically moving washing brush (horizontal brush) which rotates about a horizontal axis of rotation, in washing gantries in which the horizontal brush is connected in front of the vertical brushes in the direction of movement of the gantry, washing is started with the horizontal brush on the engine bonnet and the front part of the passenger vehicle is washed simply by repeated lateral reciprocating movements of the vertical brushes. In washing gantries in which the horizontal brush is connected after the vertical brushes in the direction of movement, washing is terminated with the horizontal brush on the boot lid and the rear part is washed simply by repeated lateral reciprocating movements of the vertical brushes.
