The device reinforces a shaft support, e.g. a tubbing column. It comprises prefabricated segments of reinforced concrete, forming tiered rings. The horizontal joint gaps are spanned, with compensating plates interposed. The segments (3) are set on top of each other, to provide groove-and-tongue connections without compensating plates, with vertical orientation in the horizontal joints (5). A joint space (10) filled with a durable elastic substance (9) is provided between each groove (7) and tongue (8). On the flank facing the shaft interior, this space is tapered towards the bounding compensating plate (6). This is watertight, without a steel sealing sheath.
