The medium flows spirally (45) between the tapered end wall (12) and the tapered outlet sleeve (11), passing into the outlet pipe (3). The longitudinal distances (13 to 16) between the tapered end wall and the outlet sleeve are equal at all radii. The ratio between the breadth and width of the inlet (44) is between 3:1 and 10:1.
