In the case of a large road sign consisting of a sign plate 2, whose outer edge pieces are secured in an edge groove 4 of an enclosing frame profile 8, the rear flange parts 14 of the frame profiles 8 [and] the transverse supporting and assembly profiles 10 are connected to horizontal carrying profiles 16 in that these are provided at opposite sides with lengthwise, undercut locking grooves 20, 22, in which special assembly fittings 18 are anchored by means of plain bolts 26, whose heads 24 are embedded in front locking grooves 20 of the carrying profile 16. The assembly fittings 18 have abutment surfaces 30, 32 for clamping of the flange parts 14 of the frame, support and assembly profiles 8, 10 against the carrying profiles 16. The locking groove 22 at the back of the carrying profiles 16 fits onto rectangular anchor plates 42 for the assembly bolt set 40 with a fixation bolt 44 and a mounting bolt 46. The bolt sets 40 are fixed by means of a spacing plate 48 in the desired sideways position, after which the carrying profiles 16 are secured to a vertical stanchion 38 by means of the mounting bolts 46 and a back rail 52, with nuts 54. In this way, the road sign can be fully assembled at the factory without regard to or knowledge of the set-up location, in that the sign during final installation can easily be set up at the desired height and with simple sideways shifting on ordinary upright stanchions. <IMAGE>
