PURPOSE:To enable easy exposure control and automatic white balance control at the time of photographing an object by leading a part of incident light to an image pickup element using an optical distributor when photographing of the object is not made and detecting the state of the object beforehand. CONSTITUTION:When photographing of the object is not made, incident light corresponding to the image of the object (not shown in the figure) is led to an optical distributor 202 consisting of a half mirror etc. through a lens 101 and a lens diaphragm 201 which is kept open. A part of incident light is led to a finder optical system 106 and remaining part is led to an image pickup element 105 through a shutter 203 which is kept open. Charge accumulation and reading corresponding to the incident light are performed always or intermittently and periodically. An output signal corresponding to the amount of incident light is outputted and converted to DC signal by a smoothing circuit 204 and led to an exposure controlling circuit 108. When the object is photographed, a gate circuit 208 is opened and the output signal of the image pickup element 105 becomes not led to the exposure controlling circuit 108. Shutter speed and lens diaphragm signals corresponding to signals formerly inputted are led to a shutter controlling circuit 207 and a diaphragm controlling circuit 205 respectively.
