PURPOSE:A chain extender for polyurethane, which is low-boiling and excellent in solubility, workability and properties, containing a specified phenol alkylene glycol ether and a specified phenol polyalkylene glycol ether. CONSTITUTION:A chain extender comprising a phenol alkylene glycol ether composition which is the reaction product of a dihydric phenol with an alkylene oxide, said composition containing 60-95wt% phenol alkylene glycol having one alkylene oxide molecule added per hydroxyl group of the phenol and 5-40wt% phenol polyalkylene glycol ether having at least two alkylene oxide molecules added per hydroxyl group of the phenol. Examples of the dihydric phenols used include hydroquinone and resorcinol. Examples of the alkylene oxides include ethylene oxide and propylene oxide.
