An electronic control unit (4) in the chest cavity is connected, via an intra-voscular catheter (1), to an electrode (2) and two pressure sensors (6,7) within the right centrical of the heart. A second electrode (3) is mounted on the outside of the catheter, just outside the heart. The pressure transducers are mounted on the 'corkscrew' end (5) of the catheter which is screwed into the wall of the heart. If the differential pressure between two depths in the heart wall drops to too low a level, indicating fibrillation, the control unit (4) automatically delivers a shock to the electrodes to arrest the fibrillation.
|
