PRODUCTION OF CYLINDRICAL BODY

PURPOSE:To perform satisfactory connection irrespectively of the condition in a butt part and to improve the efficiency of a connecting operation in producing a long sized cylindrical body by welding and connecting the butt part of the end edges of thin-walled and short-sized cylindrical end edges from the outside or from the inside and the outside by using a backing strip. CONSTITUTION:The end edges of thin-walled and short-sized cylinders 1 are butted and tack welded. A backing strip 3 which is a steel strip is pressed to the outside circumference or the inside and outside circumferences in the butt part and the seam is welded. Transportation is easy owing to the short-sized cylinders and even if there is a minor inconvenience in a gap, etc. in the stage of on-site butting, the butt parts are cover-welded by using the backing strip 3 and therefore satisfactory connection is accomplished without trouble and without leakage.
