PURPOSE:To prevent the short-circuit due to the extension of a positive electrode plate by forming the lower section of the positive electrode plate shorter than the lower skirt section of an adjoining and facing negative electrode plate so that the extension of the positive electrode plate is absorbed by a gap section formed there. CONSTITUTION:An electrode plate group laminated with a negative electrode plate 2, a retainer 3, and a positive electrode plate 4 in turn is stored in a battery jar 5 with a bottom saddle 6 at the jar bottom. The lower end section of the positive electrode plate 4 is formed shorter than the lower end section of the negative electrode plate 2 by a size difference of H, and a gap section 7 is formed on the bottom saddle 6. Accordingly, the pressure of inflation and extension of the positive electrode plate 4 while a lead storage battery is in use is absorbed and dissipated by the gap section 7 below the positive electrode plate 4, thus preventing the contact and short-circuit of the positive electrode plate 4 with the negative electrode plate 2 due to its extension and the seal breakage of the upper section and cover of the battery jar 5 due to the extension transmitted to a pole column 9. |
