PURPOSE:To provide a single-component phosphor in amber color with a high luminance which consists of a specified Ca-Mg-Mn-S compsn. and causes no Cd pollution. CONSTITUTION:The phosphor is represented by the formula, where x is 0.3-3.8 (mol) and y is 0.35-1.0 (mol). In the area where Mn is in high concn., marked lowering of phosphorescence takes place. In this case, a desired chromaticity coordinate is obtained in the area where attenuation of the phosphorescence is low and the luminance is increased with a consistent color tone, if Mn concn. is lowered by addition of Mg. When Mg is added while Mn concn. is maintained constant, attenuation of the phosphorescence is lessened, although the phosphorescence energy effect is decreased slightly. A preferred condition to obtain a high-luminance phosphor is to choose a combination of Mg and Mn concns. corresponding to the luminance along curve 12.
